@mermaidan - You have never dreamed in color? That's astounding. I think you are the first person I've ever encountered who doesn't. I was always curious, so thank you.

I don't necessarily have wonderful dream recall, though I did work on it for a while in order to achieve a state of lucidity while I was dreaming. I got there a couple of times. Mostly there are just moments like the one described above, and everything else just fades away. I have a friend who remembers his dreams much better than me... he writes songs about them and sometimes IN them, which I find quite remarkable.

The image of the ship's graveyard is incredible, and an underwater version similar to the dream I had. I could try to draw it, but I'm afraid it would turn out less than perfect, or course, and I do not want that kind of frustration hanging over me at the moment! :)

@Mere - just moments, not usually the whole dreams. The failing classes dream must be awful. Often I have dreams where I'm in a play and I have not even read my lines, let alone memorized them.

Looking forward to the next panel... I feel lucky I can check this evening and not have to wait until tomorrow morning! Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Thanks, Salty! (Maybe a trip through the Tunnel of Glove would have sealed the deal between South and Twain?)

Lucky you, remembering your imaginative dreams like that, Lauren! I just still dream I fail my classes--including ninth grade Biology of seven years past.

Oh, things are going to get darker in this story soon, for all players involved. I don't have a lot of sympathy for South, even at this point. She's always seemed very predatory to me, an outwardly beautiful monster. Right now what's most heart-wrenching is that the first real night (day? they don't care) Lafayette and Camomile spend together seems to be their last? ("He gave it to me, that last day.")

@Lauren - You have remarkable recall of your dreams. I would guess that the vivid imagry that you described is a combination of memories, and Mark's amazing views of World's End. It is interesting that you can dream in color; I don't think I ever have. I tried to find an image online that matched your description; this is the best I could find (sorry no lights). http://dashinvaine.deviantart.com/art/Ships-Graveyard-painting-85152921

You should be getting "The Time Machine: The Journey Back" by next weekend.

I was writing to one of my daughters, "...and if anything goes South, we'll have backup." And it hit me where the name South probably came from: "The economy went south,"

Well, Twain's relationships sure went south, er, South.
...
And my apologies if anyone else posted this idea first.

Does this make sense, or do I need a couple more hours of sleep?

mermaidan: these are all good questions....
I love the way you think.

I had a dream about steamships the other night. This clip keeps coming back to me:

We're driving along this curvy paved road, there is a hill on the right side, and on the left.. this shallow body of water, kind of like a pond or wetlands of some sort, and there were all these tugboats or paddleboats or steamboats (like from the late 19th century/early 20th century) at diagonal angles, like this graveyard of watercraft. They were all decorated with twinkly lights and colorful lanterns, ready for parties and then abandoned. The lights glowed like fireflies under the billions and billions of stars. The reeds and grasses that grew around the edge of the water were intensely green, even at night.

It was one of the most beautiful dream moments i've ever had.

Before we return to the Lorelei, one of my favourite photo blogs came up with a picture of the oldest operating steamship in North America.
